Music Lessons with
Dr Christopher Hepburn

Dr. Christopher Hepburn is a concert pianist and musicologist whose work bridges classical music traditions with contemporary approaches to sound, embodiment, and wellness. Holding a PhD from Texas Tech University, his research spans East Asian and Western traditions, culminating in his 2023 book on premodern Japanese song poems.

He has held prestigious fellowships at the University of Southern California, where his interdisciplinary teaching in history, art, and culture has led student advisees to top honors at creative symposia. Internationally recognized for his scholarship and performance, Dr. Hepburn contributed to the acclaimed Complete Works of Alexey Stanchinsky recording (Grand Piano/Naxos) and has presented at top institutions including Oxford University, Columbia University, and Waseda University.

Tracing his pianistic lineage to Beethoven and Chopin through the Leschetizky-Czerny and Horszowski-Mikuli traditions, Dr. Hepburn studied with renowned pedagogues such as Leslie Spotz, Lora Deahl, and Tatiana Roitmann, and was coached by figures from the Lorenzo di Medici Institute in Tuscania, Italy and the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK.

As a member of the Leschetizky Association, he champions adaptive, forward-looking pedagogy that integrates classical rigor with modern fluency in digital culture, anime, and media. His work not only preserves musical heritage but also reimagines it for contemporary global audiences.

Dr Hepburn is an official Steinway & Sons teacher, and he teaches on a Steinway Model M.

Music learning,

Each option offers something a little different, but they are all built to meet you where you are, moving you forward with intention.

Studio Polices

To help keep things consistent and fair, here’s how scheduling works:

In-person lessons are paid monthly and include a reserved weekly time slot just for you. This structure supports steady progress and provides continuity in your learning.

Online lessons are more flexible and can be booked one at a time, which is perfect for drop-ins, trial sessions, or anyone with a shifting schedule.

If you have any questions, unique scheduling needs, or would like to start lessons, feel free to reach out below. I’m happy to help.

Please note: when you book a lesson, you're reserving my time in advance. If you need to cancel or reschedule, at least twenty-four hours’ notice is required.

Missed or late-canceled lessons cannot be refunded or rescheduled, and make-up lessons are not guaranteed for student absences. This policy helps protect the time and energy I dedicate to each student. Think of it like reserving a seat at a concert: if you miss it, the seat was still held for you.

If in the rare event I ever need to cancel a lesson, I’ll always offer a make-up or refund.
